DRESS CODE
(for the 2005-2006 school year and following)
|
|
As Christians we are guided by a sense of responsibility to "let our
light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise
your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
In addition to the importance of spreading the Gospel and attracting
others to Christ, we believe that the behavior of our children will also
improve if they dress as though school is more important than play. Studies
have shown that peoples' attitudes change and behavior is modified
by the clothing they wear . We have noted that increased self-esteem results
among students who dress more formally. Therefore our concerns are for
neatness, cleanliness, modesty, and safety. The following guidelines are for all students (K-8th grade)
1. Under the guidelines of neat and clean, clothing should be in the purchased state (nothing cut off). Hems should be non-frayed. Rips/tears are not acceptable.
2. Midriffs, waists, and "below the waist" must be covered AT ALL TIMES. PLEASE CHECK APPROPRIATE COVERAGE OF THESE AREAS BY ASKING YOUR CHILD TO RAISE THEIR HANDS (to see if the midriff shows) AND CHECKING THE WAIST OF THEIR JEANS/SLACKS IN THE BACK WHEN THEY ARE SITTING.
3. Undergarments must be worn and concealed AT ALL TIMES.

Violations of the dress code will be handled in the following manner:
The teacher will explain the violation to the students. The student will phone a parent/guardian to report the violation.
If the violation is not immediately correctable, the student will receive a shirt from the office to be worn over their current clothing for the remainder of the day. This shirt will be returned to their teacher at the end of the day.
The fourth violation will result in a one-day suspension from school.
Persistent violations will be handled according to the code of conduct, which could include further suspensions and expulsion.
Violations during the last week of school will result in the student being removed from the awards ceremony and his or her report card being held.
Exceptions to these rules will be considered when made by parents for the health/physical conditions of their children, when presented to after having met with the approval of the principal.
